Equipping Young People Today, Transforming Communities Tomorrow

SOS Children’s Villages Kenya and DHL Express Kenya have renewed their commitment to youth empowerment through the DHL GoTeach Youth Employability Programme, strengthening a partnership dedicated to preparing young people for employment, independence, and sustainable livelihoods.

The programme is designed to bridge the gap between education and employment by equipping young people with practical skills, workplace exposure, mentorship, and career guidance. Through these opportunities, participants gain the confidence, knowledge, and experience needed to successfully navigate the transition into the workforce and pursue meaningful careers.

At a time when many young people face challenges accessing employment opportunities, partnerships that connect education, skills development, and industry experience are becoming increasingly important. The DHL GoTeach Programme continues to demonstrate the power of investing in young people and creating pathways that enable them to realize their full potential.

Building Skills and Unlocking Opportunity

The programme provides young people with access to:

  • Professional mentorship and coaching
  • Workplace exposure and industry insights
  • Career guidance and employability readiness training
  • Soft skills development
  • Confidence-building opportunities
  • Networking and professional engagement

These experiences help participants develop the competencies employers are seeking while building the resilience and self-belief necessary to succeed in today's dynamic job market.

Speaking during the partnership renewal event, Diana Etsabo, Head of Fund Development and Communication at SOS Children’s Villages Kenya, emphasized the importance of investing in young people as drivers of social and economic progress.

A youthful population only becomes an advantage when young people are equipped, empowered, and prepared to contribute meaningfully to society. Through this collaboration with DHL, we are helping bridge the gap between potential and opportunity by equipping young people with practical skills, confidence, and pathways into the world of work.”

Creating Lasting Impact Through Partnership

Over the years, the DHL GoTeach Programme has grown into a global initiative that helps young people develop the skills needed to access employment opportunities and build sustainable futures.

Highlighting the programme's reach and impact, Limiri Eric, DHL Global Partnership Advisor, noted:

“Through GoTeach, we have reached more than 23,000 young people, equipping them with employability skills, soft skills, workplace exposure, and the confidence they need to navigate the world of work. As we renew this partnership, our hope is to reach even more young people, create greater opportunities, and transform more lives.

The continued collaboration reflects a shared belief that meaningful change happens when organizations invest in long-term solutions that empower young people to become active contributors to their communities and economies.

Investing in Youth, Strengthening Communities

The success of the programme is reflected in the stories of young people who have gained employment, advanced their careers, and built confidence through the opportunities provided.

According to Pramod Bagalwadi, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding East Africa, sustained investment in youth produces measurable and lasting results.

“The success stories we see today are because young people were given a strong foundation and the opportunity to grow. When we invest in young people, we see real results, and we remain proud to continue creating those opportunities.”

His remarks underscore an important reality: empowering young people not only changes individual lives but also creates ripple effects that strengthen families, workplaces, and communities.

One Young Person at a Time

For DHL Express Kenya, the value of the programme extends far beyond employment opportunities.

Paul Makolosi, Managing Director, DHL Express Kenya, highlighted the transformative nature of the partnership:

“This partnership is impacting one young person at a time, and through that we are touching the world. The young people who go through this programme excel within DHL and beyond because these are life skills that stay with them. That is what makes today a milestone as we renew this partnership.”

The programme equips participants with transferable skills that continue to serve them throughout their careers, enabling them to adapt, grow, and succeed long after the training experience ends.

Preparing Young People for the Future

As the partnership enters a new chapter, there is a continued focus on ensuring young people are prepared not only for today's job market but also for the future.

Reflecting on the importance of youth empowerment, Ruth Kamunyu, Country Director, DHL Supply Chain Kenya, shared an enduring message:

“We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future.”

Encouraging programme participants, she added:

“We are setting you up for the world, go and conquer it.”

These words capture the spirit of the GoTeach Programme—equipping young people with the skills, confidence, and opportunities needed to shape their own futures.

A Call to Action

Creating opportunities for young people requires collaboration between the private sector, development organizations, educators, mentors, and communities.

SOS Children’s Villages Kenya invites employers, corporations, mentors, development partners, and youth champions to join this effort by supporting programmes that equip young people with the tools they need to succeed.

Together, we can close the gap between potential and opportunity, build pathways to meaningful employment, and empower the next generation to become leaders, innovators, and changemakers.

Because when we invest in young people today, we transform communities tomorrow.
