‘My journey began in Eldoret at Herman Gmeiner School. In Form 4, my results were not great, so I could not go to university. I did not give up and since I loved fashion, so I joined a technical school for a Fashion and Design certificate course. With good grades, I got a scholarship and completed my diploma. I aim for a degree and master’s in fashion. I am proud and thankful for the support from SOS Children’s Villages in Kenya. I have learned that grades do not define you, believe in yourself.’

More than 979 children have been cared for through the Alternative Care Programme. SOS Children’s Villages in Kenya enables children to grow in a caring family environment through 5 programmes across five counties around Kenya.

'As a young person from Kisumu, I recently completed my form four national exams; a milestone made possible by the support from SOS Children’s Villages. Driven by a passion for Accounting, I have been using a laptop to explore how accountants utilize technology. As I eagerly await my results, I look forward to pursuing an accounting course and transforming my dreams into reality.'

Children must know their rights and understand how they should be treated and treat others. This is why 100% of children in Alternative Care at SOS Children’s Villages in Kenya have received Child Protection Training.

Geoffrey Boiyo- Child Safeguarding

'Imagine living in a world where children, aware of their rights, stand as their own champions, fiercely protecting their safety and well-being. In communities with child neglect and abuse, this knowledge becomes their hope. These informed children not only safeguard themselves but also look out for their peers, knowing exactly where to turn and whom to trust when their rights are violated. By empowering them, we take a crucial step towards our mission: ensuring every child grows up in a loving home.'
